Throughout the 1960s, this Portobello Road building was put through numerous extensive alterations and enlargements that left the building warped into an odd shaped shop at ground level and a basement that was used only for storage. Above the shop was a three bedroom flat across the first and second floors.
We took on this project with the aim to convert this strangely planned building into something spectacular. This involved extending the building to the rear in order to accommodate a state of the air staircase to link the entire building from top floor to basement. This then allowed us to convert the three bedroom maisonette into two fantastic modern apartment flats on the first and second floor. The shop area was able to become larger, more spacious, and brighter following the widening of the front entrance.
